New Delhi: India is set to take on New Zealand in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final on Sunday, March 9, at the Dubai International Stadium. Skipper Rohit Sharma will be aiming to secure his second ICC title in under a year while also looking to improve his batting performance, having yet to deliver a standout knock in the tournament. He will be determined to register a big score, at least a half-century, in the crucial final. Additionally, Rohit is on the verge of creating history, as he could become the first player in the world to achieve a unique milestone.
Rohit Sharma has amassed 421 runs at the Dubai International Stadium, and if he scores 79 more in the Champions Trophy final, he will become the first player in history to reach 500 ODI runs at the venue. Additionally, with just four more runs, he will surpass Scotland’s Richie Berrington to become the highest run-scorer in ODIs at this stadium.
By leading India to the Champions Trophy 2025 final, Rohit Sharma has etched his name in history as the first captain ever to guide his team to the finals of all major ICC events—Champions Trophy, ODI World Cup, T20 World Cup, and the World Test Championship.
Rohit Sharma’s Captaincy Future In Doubt?
According to a report by *The Times of India*, the outcome of the India vs New Zealand Champions Trophy 2025 final could play a crucial role in deciding Rohit Sharma’s future as India’s ODI and Test captain, as the BCCI aims for stable leadership with the 2027 ODI World Cup in mind.
The report further states that Rohit Sharma believes he still has some cricket left in him and might not retire. However, his future as India’s Test and ODI captain will be decided after the conclusion of the Champions Trophy 2025 final.
A BCCI source stated, “Rohit still believes there is some cricket left in him. He has been told to communicate his plans going forward. Retiring is his call, but there will be another discussion around continuing with captaincy. Rohit himself understands the need to have a stable captain if the team wants to prepare for a World Cup. There have been talks with Kohli too, but there doesn’t seem to be much anxiety around him.”
