14-yr-old girl drugged, assaulted at wedding

Kanpur: A 14-year-old girl was drugged and sexually assaulted in Hamirpur district.
The survivor's mother, a resident of a locality under the jurisdiction of Sadar Kotwali of the district, stated in her complaint that on February 17, she attended a wedding of an acquaintance's daughter with her minor daughter, where at around 10pm, a man from a village under the limits of Kadaura police station in Jalaun district allegedly spiked her daughter's cold drink with sedatives. After she lost consciousness, he carried her to the fields and raped her multiple times during the night, she alleged.
Following the incident, the mother rushed her daughter to the district hospital where a medical examination confirmed sexual assault. The victim regained consciousness after several hours and narrated the horrific ordeal to her family. She identified the accused as a 25-year-old man to be her perpetrator.
Circle officer Rajesh Kamal mentioned that the matter will be investigated and the culprit will be brought to book. The police are gathering evidence, including CCTV footage from the wedding venue and recording statements of witnesses who were present at the ceremony, said an official privy to probe.
The victim is currently undergoing counselling and medical treatment. Her statement will be recorded before a magistrate under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code once she is deemed fit to give her testimony.
