Kiran and Anupam first met in Chandigarh. Both were part of the Chandigarh theatre group there. However, in 1980, Kiran moved from Chandigarh to Mumbai and it was here that she got married for the first time to businessman Gautam Barry. In 1981, their son Sikandar was born and after four years, Kiran realised that everything was not right in her marriage.

At the same time, Anupam’s first marriage was reportedly with a girl named Madhumalati in 1979 under family pressure and he too was not happy with this marriage. When Kiran and Anupam went to Kolkata for Nadira Babbar’s play, they met again there. After this meeting, Anupam proposed to Kiran. After this, both of them started meeting often. Both divorced their partners and got married in 1985. Anupam adopted Kiran Kher’s son Sikandar and gave him his surname.

Born on 7 March 1955 in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, Anupam is often seen playing with children. He has also hosted a TV show for children called ‘Anupam Uncle’. But in real life, he has no children.

Anupam Kher himself has admitted in many interviews that he misses his children a lot. In an interview in 2013, Anupam had said, “Sikandar (Kiran Kher and her first husband Gauram Berry’s son) was four years old when he came to me and he gives me a lot of love and respect. The way my father behaved with me, I behave with Sikandar in the same way. But it would be wrong to say that I don’t miss my own child. I do miss this. But I can’t do anything. Sometimes I miss the joy of my child growing up.”

Anupam has done more than 500 films since his debut in 1984 with ‘Saaransh’. In view of his contribution to the acting world, the Government of India has honored him with Padma Shri in 2004 and Padma Bhushan in 2006.

According to media reports, Anupam Kher’s total wealth is Rs 405 crore. His annual income is approximately Rs 30 crore. According to this, he earns approximately Rs 3 crore every month.
