Thiruvananthapuram: After initial hesitation, governor Rajendra Arlekar on Friday gave clearance to the state govt for presenting University Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2025 (2), in the Assembly.
The governor had earlier reserved his permission to present the bill in the house. The permission was sought since the basic acts of the CUSAT, KTU and Malayalam Universities are in Malayalam, and as per the Assembly rules, the govt is supposed to obtain prior permission from the governor before amending acts in Malayalam.
Since the governor reserved his permission, the higher education minister presented only one set of the bill pertaining to the universities having their basic act in English.
Law minister P Rajeeve and higher education minister R Bindu called on the governor at Raj Bhavan and explained the objectives of the amendments proposed in the acts. The bill will be presented in the house on March 20.
