POCSO case: 19-year-old sentenced to 20 years imprisonment

The 5th fast track court on Wednesday convicted a 19-year-old youth to 20 years of imprisonment and a fine of ₹10,000 in a rape and POCSO case registered against him in Cottonpet police station in May 2024.

The accused Jeeva Murugappa from Bakshi garden allegedly forced a minor girl into his house and raped and threatened her not to inform anyone. The accused later committed the offence three to four times, following which the victim got pregnant.

The accused was arrested based on a complaint lodged by the family of the victim.

Based on the charge sheet submitted by the police, the fifth fast track down convicted him and also directed the district legal service authority to pay a compensation of ₹5 lakh to the victim.
