CM invites UAE firms to invest in key sectors
Shimla: Chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Wednesday invited the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to invest in key sectors, including tourism and hospitality, green energy, dairy, food processing, and data storage, in the state.
Dr Abdulnasser Alshaali, Ambassador of UAE in India, met Sukhu here and discussed potential investment opportunities in the state.
The CM informed him that Himachal offered unique investment opportunities as it had breathtaking landscapes, including vast snowbound areas, hills, and water bodies. To enhance tourism infrastructure, the state govt is developing multiple ropeways, expanding Kangra airport, and constructing new four lanes and heliports to improve connectivity for visitors, which will make Himachal a favourite destination for investment, he added.
The UAE Ambassador evinced interest in investing in the tourism sector, particularly adventure sports and skiing, stating that the UAE has already identified potential locations for investment in the state and welcomed suggestions from the state govt for additional sites.
The Ambassador said his country was already involved in the green energy sector in India and expressed interest in collaborating with the Himachal govt in green energy projects. He also requested specific projects with the UAE for further coordination.
Sukhu said Himachal was on track to become the green energy state by the next year. Over the last two years, the present state govt took significant steps to protect the environment of the state and harness green energy, he said. These initiatives include setting up new solar power projects, developing six green corridors, and converting the entire state-owned diesel buses to e-buses in a phased manner.
The CM said Himachal Pradesh had 25% of the hydropower generation potential of the country and tremendous opportunities to invest in green energy, including solar energy and pump storage projects.
