Senior citizen’s murder mystery cracked, cops nab 17-yr-old from MP

Nagpur: The crime branch solved the murder mystery of 68-year-old Papa Madavi and apprehended a 17-year-old youth. The accused claimed he killed Madavi over the latter repeatedly making sexual advances towards him.
Madavi, a retired govt employee, tried to intimidate the minor with a knife, threatening to make one of their earlier intimate encounters public, the accused told cops.
The city police crime branch apprehended the juvenile in conflict with law for his role in the murder from his hometown in Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh around a week after the incident. Although the minor tried to mislead the investigation team, approximately 35 calls made between him and the victim exposed his lies.
Police said the minor was working at a construction site near Durga Mata temple near Koradi Road. Madavi lived in the same area. Madavi was alone when he was stabbed to death. Apart from Koradi police station, the crime branch team, led by senior inspector Sandeep Buwa under DCP Rahul Maknikar, also started a parallel probe.
Sources said the crime branch began a probe at different locations, including the office where Madavi previously worked and learnt about his sexual orientation. Later, the cops went through Madavi's call detail records and found the deceased making several calls to the minor. Cyber cell expert, sub inspector Zingre, worked on the call data analysis.
Police said Madavi frequently visited the construction site where the minor worked under the pretext of hiring his services for some civil work and used to offer him food. It is learnt Madavi repeatedly tried to lure the minor to his home on various pretexts, but the minor refused.
The minor was unnerved after Madavi threatened to make his video viral. The minor rushed to Madavi's house to check if some videos really existed. The minor also threatened Madavi to expose him before his wife, which left the victim petrified.
The two had a fight over the issue. Madavi used a knife to threaten the minor, who counterattacked with a blade found in the room. In the fight, the senior citizen was stabbed to death. His wife discovered the body upon returning home and alerted neighbours and police. An offence was registered at the Koradi police station.
