Ministers announce funding for renovation of MIMS
Mandya: Mandya district minister N Cheluvarayaswamy and medical education minister Sharanprakash Patil announced the allocation of necessary funding for the renovation and upgradation of Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) and Hospital.
The development is part of an effort to enhance healthcare infrastructure and services in the region.
A comprehensive meeting to discuss the future of MIMS was held at the Vikas Soudha in Bengaluru. Principal secretary of the medical education department, Mohammad Mohsin, and director of MIMS, Dr P Narasimhaswamy, attended the meeting.
The hospital, currently with an approved capacity of 400 beds, is treating over 800 patients, which has created a significant strain on its existing infrastructure. As part of the proposed upgrades, Cheluvarayaswamy emphasised the urgent need to increase the bed capacity to 850 to accommodate the growing number of patients. Patil responded positively, directing officials to renew the approval from the environment department and prepare a formal proposal for the upgrade.
Further recommendations were made to expand the number of medical student intakes, with Cheluvarayaswamy urging an increase in the intake from 200 to 250 students. Both ministers emphasised the importance of providing holistic support to ensure the hospital's long-term sustainability and growth.
A significant part of the proposal includes the renovation and construction of several key medical facilities. These include emergency treatment units, minor surgical units, cancer treatment facilities, laundry services, and additional rooms. The proposal also covers the enhancement of power supply to ensure uninterrupted service and operations at the hospital.
Srirangapatna MLA and chairman of CESC, Ramesh Bandisiddegowda, and Mandya MLA, Ravikumar Ganigara, attended the meeting and provided suggestions for the hospital's development, ensuring the project is aligned with the needs of the community. Mandya deputy commissioner Kumara has been instructed to oversee the project's progress and ensure its timely execution.
