The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released a fresh weather update, predicting rainfall in several areas while hinting at a drop in temperatures. As summer intensifies, many regions have already started experiencing rising heat levels, but a shift in the weather pattern is expected to bring relief.
The latest forecast indicates that North Bengal and parts of South Bengal may witness scattered rain and thunderstorms over the coming days. Meanwhile, Kolkata and its surrounding areas are set to experience fluctuating temperatures with a brief cooling phase before the heat makes a comeback.

Rainfall Predictions for Key Regions
North Bengal to Witness Scattered Rainfall
The IMD has predicted light rain in various parts of North Bengal, especially in the hilly regions of Darjeeling and Kalimpong.
- Darjeeling: Light rain expected until Sunday, accompanied by scattered showers and possible thunderstorms.
- Kalimpong: Rainfall likely in hilly areas, with thunderstorms expected from Friday through Monday.
- Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri: Scattered rain is also on the forecast, with Saturday bringing the highest chances of rainfall and thunder.
Although these rain spells may provide temporary relief, the overall temperature pattern is expected to remain stable over the next 4-5 days, as per the Alipur Meteorological Department.
South Bengal: Temperature Drop Expected
- In South Bengal, the IMD predicts a slight cooling trend, with temperatures dropping by 2-3°C in the next few days.
- The skies will remain clear, and no rain is expected for the week.
- Daytime temperatures will rise, making afternoons warm, while mornings and evenings remain comfortable.
- A slight temperature dip is expected on Thursday and Friday, before the heat builds up again over the weekend.
Kolkata Weather Forecast: Temperature Fluctuations Expected
The IMD has also issued a temperature forecast for Kolkata, where the weather is expected to fluctuate over the coming days.
- Thursday & Friday: The minimum temperature is expected to drop to 20°C, while the maximum temperature will stay around 30°C.
- Saturday Onward: The temperature is set to rise again, reaching 33-34°C in Kolkata and climbing to 36-37°C in surrounding areas.
- Humidity Levels: Kolkata will experience humidity ranging from 23% to 88%, making the atmosphere feel sticky and uncomfortable during the day.
