Nagpur: The newly-elected team of the Vidarbha Chest Association (VCA) led by Dr Rajesh Swarnakar as president and Dr Nainesh Patel as honorary secretary was installed on Sunday. The installation ceremony was graced by chief guest Dr Vikram Jaggi, Director of Asthma and Allergy Centre, Delhi, and guest of honour Dr Ravi Chauhan, dean of IGGMC.
The highlight of the event was the insightful discourse on crucial pulmonary health topics. Dr Swarnakar delivered an oration on an often-overlooked subject, ‘Fitness to Fly - Assessment of Patients with Pulmonary Diseases'. He emphasised the importance of assessing lung patients before air travel to prevent complications and ensure safe journeys.
"Air travel can pose unique challenges for individuals with pulmonary diseases due to cabin pressure and reduced oxygen levels. Proper assessment is essential to prevent in-flight medical emergencies and to ensure that patients with respiratory conditions can travel safely," said Dr Swarnakar.
Dr Jaggi captivated the audience with his talk on ‘Asthma Management Beyond Prescription', stressing that asthma control depends not solely on medication but on a collaborative relationship between doctors and patients. "Asthma management goes beyond just prescribing drugs. It is about building a trustful partnership between the doctor and the patient, focusing on lifestyle modifications, education, and continuous monitoring to achieve optimal control," said Dr Jaggi.
He also underscored the need for doctors to prioritise patient education, stating, "Investigation and medicines are not enough. We must empower our patients with knowledge about their condition to enhance compliance and improve outcomes."
Following the enlightening discussions, the new VCA team was formally introduced. The executive committee includes IGGMCH's Dr Radha Munje as immediate Past President, Dr Sumer Choudhary as Vice President, Dr Aditya Parihar as Treasurer, and Dr Anil Sontakke as Joint Secretary. The executive members include Dr Shafee Khan, Dr Vikram Rathi, Dr Avinash Gandhare, and Dr Parimal Deshpande.
