Outfit to stand with Thirumandankudi Mill sugarcane cultivators

The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has extended its support to the sugarcane cultivators attached to the erstwhile private sugar mill at Thirumandankudi in Thanjavur district, who were on a relay-demonstration for over 800 days.

Addressing the media after visiting the demonstrating sugarcane cultivators at Thirumandankudi on Wednesday, TVK Thanjavur Central district secretary Saravanan said the party would stand with the agitating farmers and take the issue to the common man by organising demonstrations at various place across the delta.

The sugarcane cultivators were demanding the closure/waiver of bank loans taken in the name of farmers by the erstwhile private sugar mill management in collusion with the bank officials, withdrawal of cases filed against the demonstrating farmers and others for more than 800 days.

Meanwhile, a group of farmers led by P. Ayyakannu, State president, Desiya Thennindhiya Nadhigal Inaippu Vivasayigal Sangam and P.R. Pandian, president, Coordination Committee of All Farmers Associations of Tamil Nadu, observed a fast at Thanjavur in support of the fast unto death demonstration by the farmers’ leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal at Khanauri border of New Delhi-Punjab.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Ayyakannu and Mr. Pandian urged the Tamil Nadu government to insist upon the Central government to implement the Supreme Court directions with respect to the demands of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha in toto.
