On the occasion of Ash Wednesday, marking the commencement of Lenten, devotees thronged churches across various parts of Thoothukudi. Leaves used during Palm Sunday were burnt and sanctified to produce ash, which the priests applied to the devotees who visited the churches.
Special holy masses and prayers were conducted in churches to mark the occasion.
In Thoothukudi, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, a special mass was conducted by Parish Priest Fr. Antony Bruno.
Similarly special masses and prayers were conducted at Our Lady of Snow Basilica, Sacred Heart Cathedral and other churches across the city.
