Social activist Medha Patkar met with the Telangana Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Commission on Tuesday (March 4, 2025), to discuss key issues affecting farmers and those displaced by the Musi River Development Project.

During her two-day tour of Hyderabad, Ms. Patkar visited families who lost their homes due to the Musi River project and interacted with farmers facing land acquisition issues. Her tour has sparked significant interest and discussion.

At the meeting with Commission chairman Kodanda Reddy and members, she emphasised the need for the State government to engage with the people of the Musi catchment area to restore the river’s former glory and ensure rehabilitation of the poor.

The commission highlighted the Telangana government’s initiatives, including loan waivers, bonuses, and assurance schemes for farmers, as well as financial assistance for those affected by the Musi River project.
