Couple poses as cops, cheats LIC agent of 10L; arrested

Ghaziabad: A couple has been arrested for allegedly duping Rs 10 lakh from an LIC agent by posing as police officers and blackmailing him. Anil Kumar (38) and his wife Preeti (35) were arrested.
ACP Abhishek Srivastava said that the victim, Sitaram Pandey, filed a complaint on Monday. The couple allegedly exploited their long-standing relationship with him, repeatedly seeking financial assistance under false pretenses.
Initially, Pandey had voluntarily given them money due to their financial struggles, but they later resorted to deception and extortion.
Fearing for his safety, Pandey eventually approached the police. During questioning, the couple admitted that Anil had been impersonating a police officer.
An FIR has been registered under BNS sections 308(2) (extortion), 316(2) (criminal breach of trust), 318(2) (cheating), and 319(2) (cheating by personation). tnn
