The Bangalore Metro and Suburban Rail Passengers’ Association has requested Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to prioritise and announce sustainable and affordable last-mile connectivity for the people of Bengaluru and Namma Metro passengers in the State Budget.
In its letter to the CM, the association said its members met the Managing Director of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) several times and had detailed discussions on the matter, but last-mile connectivity remaiins the biggest gap in Bengaluru for Namma Metro travellers.
“Addressing last-mile connectivity will improve access. It is the need of the hour for maximizing benefits to passengers for investment made on the Metro Rail and for reducing the congestion and traffic jams on the city’s roads. Reliable, affordable and sustainable solutions is the best way to increase metro ridership, reduce dependency on private vehicles and overall efficiency of mass public transport system,” it said.
Further, the letter stated that though the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) operates feeder bus services, many passengers complain that these buses are neither convenient nor regular, leading to low ridership, suggesting mini buses in the Central Business District due to narrow roads, and e-rickshaws and e-scooters from all metro stations to be announced in the budget.
