Honeywell (NASDAQ: HON) has released new survey results indicating that 98% of U.S. airline fliers would consider taking an electric vertical take-off and landing vehicle (eVTOL), commonly known as an air taxi, as part of their travel plans. The findings highlight a strong demand for advanced air mobility (AAM) solutions, with nearly 80% of respondents stating they would travel more frequently if air taxis were available for airport transfers.
The survey, conducted among 1,000 U.S. adults who have flown in the past year, revealed that reducing overall travel time is the primary driver behind this interest. Air taxis offer a faster alternative to road travel, particularly for airport commutes and short-distance city-to-city trips. Nearly half of respondents (47%) cited the ability to avoid traffic congestion as a key advantage. Other major factors include convenience (61%), cost (61%), environmental benefits (44%), and the novelty of the experience (44%).
Millennials are the most enthusiastic demographic, with 65% expressing interest in air taxis, compared to 58% of overall respondents. Frequent flyers—those who took more than 10 trips in the past year—showed even higher interest at 67%, while business travelers displayed more enthusiasm (60%) than leisure travelers (45%).
One of the most popular use cases for air taxis is travel between cities within 100 miles of each other, cited by 41% of respondents. An eVTOL could complete a trip from New York to Philadelphia in under an hour, significantly cutting down the two-to-three-hour drive time. Other popular applications include traveling from suburban airports to city centers (31%) and making quick connections to nearby cities for flights (28%).
While enthusiasm for air taxis is high, safety remains a critical concern. Approximately 65% of respondents identified safety as an essential factor in their decision-making, indicating that industry players must prioritize building trust through rigorous testing and certification. Additionally, while interest is high, cost will play a major role in determining how widely air taxis are adopted in the mainstream market.
Honeywell Aerospace Technologies continues to advance AAM solutions, working closely with aircraft manufacturers and regulators to accelerate the adoption and certification of next-generation air transport. The company provides nose-to-tail aviation technology for both existing and emerging aircraft, positioning itself at the forefront of urban air mobility.
As the air taxi industry moves closer to commercialization, Honeywell’s findings suggest a robust market demand for these vehicles. The ability to reduce travel time, avoid congestion, and enhance convenience makes air taxis an attractive option for modern travelers. While still in the early stages of rollout, these aircraft could soon become a common feature of urban and regional transport networks, transforming how people move between cities and access major transportation hubs.
