Mohali: A gang of snatchers being run by a juvenile, along with four others, has been busted with the arrest of three suspects. Several mobile phones and a bike have been seized from their possession.
They have been identified by police as Akash Mehra and Vishal Mehra from Gobindgarh village in Sohana Mohali and a 17-year-old.
DSP Harsimran Singh Bal Monday said tipped off about the minor, a team led by the incharge of Aerocity police station and SI Rakesh Kumar caught him. On questioning, he disclosed that Akash Mehra and Vishal Mehra were also part of the gang.
Revealing the modus operandi, the minor told police that he used to get information about the target and plan to execute the snatching.
On Feb 23, the gang members snatched a mobile phone from Ram Ratan, a resident of Sector 66B, near Sector 82. The stolen mobile phone and the motorcycle used to commit the crime were recovered from the suspects. During interrogation, they confessed to snatching mobile phones and gold chains from passersby.
Police presented two suspects, Akash and Vishal, in court and obtained their custody for further questioning. It was found that they were wanted in two cases earlier. A case of theft was registered against Akash Mehra at Rajpura police station, while Vishal was wanted in a snatching case under Sohana PS. This apart, a case under sections 304(2), 3(5) of the BNS Act was registered against them at the Aerocity police station.
