Published - March 04, 2025 07:58 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM

Steps have been taken to make the fishing harbour as envisaged when the first phase of environmental clearance for the Vizhinjam International Seaport was granted, a reality within the next 18 months, said Ports Minister V.N. Vasavan.

Fishermen, who are the beneficiaries of the new fishing harbour, had raised some concerns regarding the design of the port. In this regard, detailed physical modeling studies were conducted by an expert team at the Central Water and Power Research Station (CWPRS), Pune.

The fishermen’s representatives were also taken to the study centre in Pune, and the physical model experiments were explained in their presence. The Minister also informed the Assembly that the design had been revised based on the CWPRS’s report.
