US President Trump has promised to "tell it like it is" during an address to both houses of Congress from 0200 GMT.

He also announced on the online platform Truth Social that the "night will be big."

This marks his first address to both chambers of the US parliament since taking office again in January.

The first speech of a newly elected US president at a joint session of the House of Representatives and the Senate in the Capitol is traditionally not referred to as the State of the Union address, which otherwise occurs annually.

US presidents typically use this opportunity to praise the achievements of their tenure or announce new initiatives or legislation.

During one of Trump's State of the Union addresses in his first term, the then Democratic speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, tore up Trump's manuscript following the address while cameras were still rolling.
