JSR’s first pet crematorium offers dignified farewell for pets
Jamshedpur: Steel City now has its first pet crematorium. This dedicated facility near the dog kennel in Jubilee Park provides a dignified, safe, hygienic, and environmentally responsible solution to the disposal of pet remains.
The cremation charge is Rs 3000. Pets within a 50 kg weight are permitted for cremation at the facility.
The gas-fired facility, an eco-friendly alternative to pet burials, is available to pet owners during daytime hours. Pet owners can reach the place through the road next to the zoological park on Marine Drive.
"It is a responsible solution for pet owners for the disposal of pet remains," said Ruchi Narendran, president, Jamshedpur Kennel Club.
Tata Steel provided the facility. Company VP (corporate services), Chanakya Chaudhary, inaugurated the facility on Saturday.
"Pet owners living in flats faced problems in burying the remains of their dead pets. Besides, our Jusco (TS UISL) garbage cleaning workers found dead pets at the garbage site several times," said Chaudhary.
He said pet owners can now perform a respectful final rite for their pets at the crematorium.
The president of the Jamshedpur Kennel Club, Ruchi Narendran, said there are probably four or five dedicated crematoriums for pets in the country. She said the new facility is perhaps the first in eastern India.
"The demand for a pet crematorium has been there for a long time," said Abhishek Kumar of Pets and Animals Welfare Society (PAWS).
