Ara: The teachers of Veer Kunwar Singh University (VKSU), under the banner of Veer Kunwar Singh University Teachers' Association, launched an agitation protesting non-payment of salaries for the last four months.
"The college teachers and their families are facing a lot of hardship because they have not received salaries for the last four months. We are demanding the release of at least one or two months' salary in view of the upcoming festivals of Holi and Ramzan. If the govt is not issuing the salary, the VKSU should release at least one month's salary from its internal sources," said Sudha Niketan Ranjani, professor of Hindi in the M M Mahila College.
"The agitating teachers would be forced to go on a strike if they do not get their salaries immediately. Many teachers and their families, facing medical emergencies, are undergoing immense hardship due to non-payment of salaries," added Sudha.
Vice-chancellor (VC), VKSU, Shailendra Kumar Chaturvedi, said: "The salary and pension are released by the education department. However, given the festive season, we will try our best to release at least one month's salary from the internal sources of the university before the Holi."
Meanwhile, Ara MP, Sudama Prasad, on Tuesday met the members of the PG Teachers' Association, who are agitating for the last 12 days demanding payment of the teachers' salary and pension. "If the state govt doesn't listen to the demands of the agitating college teachers, I will raise the issue in the Parliament," he said.
The teachers, led by the association's president Amit Kumar, submitted a memorandum to the MP listing their demands.
