Gurgaon: Two teenagers, who were holding decorative LED light umbrellas at a wedding procession in Nuh's Ata village, were electrocuted and three of their co-workers suffered injuries when one of their umbrellas came in contact with a roadside electric transformer late on Saturday night.
On the complaint of a victim's family, Ferozpur Jhirka police registered a negligence case against the contractor who provided the services of decorative lighting and chariot for baraat. Manmohan alias Monu (16) and Sakir (18) were from Shapur Nangli in Nuh. The injured were identified as Dilshad, Arman, and Mukeem, also from the same place.
According to Manmohan's father Balbir, Tahir, who provides decorative lighting and horse carriage services for wedding processions, called his son and four other youngsters from his neighbourhood around 5pm on Saturday.
"Then at 10pm, I received a phone call from a villager who told me that my son had been electrocuted during a wedding procession," Balbir said in his complaint.
"Manmohan and Sakir were declared brought dead at Nalhar govt medical college in Nuh. Dilshad is currently undergoing treatment at the same hospital and Arman and Mukeem were discharged after treatment on Monday," Ferozpur Jhirka ASI Surender Kumar said.
During preliminary investigation, police found that the incident occurred after a horse got restless due to loud music and lighting and started jumping around.
"The groom got down from the carriage after the horse became agitated and Tahir was moving the carriage away from the procession. It was then that the horse lunged into the air, causing the victims holding umbrellas to move away from it. One of the umbrellas came in contact with a transformer, and all the five victims holding the interconnected umbrellas suffered a jolt," the ASI said.
