Enroute for matric exam, student dies in road accident
Chatra: A student, who was headed to his examination centre to appear for the ongoing JAC matriculation exam, was killed after his bike collided with a speeding tractor which lost control.
Rohit Kumar (18), a resident of Simaria Chuglamo village, met with the accident around 8:30 am near Dhodhiya river bridge a Pandna More on the Barkatha-Pipcho Gaida road. Riding pillion was Nitish Kumar from Banpura village who was grievously injured. Rohit and Nitish, who were students Project High School in Gaida, were travelling to Barkatha Plus Two High School for appearing for their maths paper.
Nitish was admitted to Barkatha community hospital and was referred to the Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital in Hazaribag. He was then taken to Dhanbad for better treatment.
Alleging that the killer tractor was ferrying illegally mined sand from Barakar river, locals blocked the road and staged protests. Zila Parishad member Kumkum Devi consoled the grieving family and advised parents against allowing students to use two-wheelers during examinations. The protesters demanded a halt to illegal sand transportation vehicles and compensation. The body was released for post-mortem after seven hours following official assurances.
Locals informed DSP Ajit Kumar Vimal about hundreds of vehicles daily transporting illegal sand through Barkatha and Gorhar police station areas via Bandasingha Mod-Ichak-Khaira road towards Hazaribagh and Ichak. They criticised the police administration's failure to control this activity. The DSP assured action and confirmed the body's dispatch for post-mortem examination.
