Man stabs mother to death over property dispute at Tellapur

A 26-year-old man stabbed his mother to death during the early hours of Monday at Divino Villas in Tellapur municipality, reportedly over a long-standing property dispute.

The accused, Karthik Reddy, was said to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the attack, said the Inspector of Kollur police, K. Ravinder.

According to the officer, Karthik, a Computer Science graduate who had previously dropped out of a hotel management course, was addicted to drugs and alcohol. He had been sent to a rehabilitation centre in Coimbatore and returned home about a month ago. Since then, he had frequently argued with his parents, demanding a share in their property to fund his expenses and to start a business.

“On Monday morning, between 4 a.m. and 4.30 a.m., Karthik, who had been drinking through the night, picked up yet another fight with his mother, Radhika, 52. Already armed with a knife, he launched a brutal attack, stabbing her multiple times. She sustained deep wounds near her kidney, abdomen, and a laceration on her elbow, with a total of seven to eight stab injuries,” explained the Inspector.

His father, who was at home, attempted to intervene but was injured in the process. “As he ran outside to call for help, Karthik fled the scene. Radhika was rushed to a private hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment,” added the officer.

The Kollur police booked a case. Efforts are on to trace Karthik.
