Dhaka: Tension is mounting between various groups and political parties that united to forcefully remove Sheikh Hasina as the prime minister of Bangladesh. A statement made by Bangladesh’s Army Chief, General Wakar-uz-Zaman, on February 25 has made it clear that all is not well in the country. Issuing a stern warning, General Wakar-uz-Zaman said that internal conflicts do not stop, the nation’s independence and sovereignty could be at risk. General Wakar’s statement, made during a military event in Dhaka, was a clear acknowledgment of the chaotic situation in Bangladesh.

Power Struggle Between BNP and Jamaat

Since Sheikh Hasina stepped down and Muhammad Yunus took over as the leader of Bangladesh, the country has been grappling with a series of economic and political crises. An open battle for power has erupted between the BNP and the radical youth forces backed by Jamaat-e-Islami. Meanwhile, the interim government formed under the leadership of Mohammad Yunus has been reduced to a mere spectator.

The current situation is such that the police are completely ineffective in front of the rioting political activists allied with Islamists. The extremists have grown so bold that they are even attacking the military. Just last month, an attack took place on an Air Force base in Cox’s Bazar.

The country is facing a slew of issues. The attack on the Air Force base indicates that it is on the brink of danger. Ongoing unrest has also weakened Bangladesh’s economy. To control inflation, the Bangladesh Bank has raised the repo rate to 10 percent, causing bank loan interest rates to rise up to 15 percent.

Plan Against India Being Hatched in Dhaka

Meanwhile, a radical plot targeting India has been exposed in Bangladesh. Pakistan’s notorious intelligence agency, ISI, is behind this plan, driven by its desperation to avenge Pakistan’s humiliating defeat in 1971. In late January this year, top officials of the Pakistani intelligence agency visited Bangladesh. The ISI has now activated its deep-state agents in the country.
