Alwar: A one-month-old infant died during a police raid allegedly after being crushed under the feet of a police official when she was sleeping on a cot with her mother in their home in a village in Alwar district Sunday morning.
The incident occurred in Raghunathgarh village under Naugaon police station area when policemen arrived in two jeeps at about 6am and entered the house of Imran Khan, son of Bashir Khan. When police did not respond after the distraught family reported this incident, villagers assembled at the residence of Alwar SP (Rural) and staged a demonstration. A case was then registered against unnamed police officials and Khan's family weas assured of action against those responsible.
"When I was sleeping on the cot with my infant daughter, the policemen arrived all of a sudden and pulled me out and sent me out of the room. They also pulled my husband out. They stepped on my infant daughter's head and killed her," said Razida Khan, mother of the dead infant, Alisba. "This is murder, and I want justice," she added, weeping.
Imran, a daily-wage labourer, said while he was sleeping beside two of his three children, his wife was sleeping with their one-month-old Alisba, who was wrapped in a blanket with the cops entered their house without prior information.
The police team that conducted the raid at Imran Khan's house was led by head constables Girdhari and Jagveer, and others in the team included constables Sunil, Rishi and Shahid, it was learnt. They were sent to police lines by Alwar SP Sanjeev Nain after the FIR was registered.
Police sources said the raid was conducted in connection with a cybercrime case as part of an ongoing campaign by police, but there was no case registered against Imran Khan, and he was not named in any FIR registered in such cases so far. Imran denied any involvement in any online fraud. He also alleged that the cops took away his mobile phone during the raid.
ASP Tejpal Singh confirmed that an FIR has been registered based on the family's written complaint and that an investigation has started.
LoP Tikaram Jully condemns incident, calls for CM's attention
Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully Sunday condemned the infant's death allegedly during a police raid in Alwar district and said police in Rajasthan were "acting like terrorists". He accused police of torturing people by "forming gangs, arresting dozens of people, registering cases against only two or three, and releasing the rest after taking bribes". He urged CM Bhajan Lal Sharma to direct his attention to "organised gangs of police active in districts like Alwar and Bharatpur".
