Tornado season has begun in Georgia. Savannah expects strong storms and wind gusts this week
Georgians should prepare for strong storms this week, according to National Weather Service forecast predictions.
The NWS forecast predicts "between a quarter and half of an inch possible" on Wednesday.
When is the rain in Savannah this week?
Here is the forecast for the showers going into Wednesday, according to the NWS:
Tuesday
There is a 20% chance of showers between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. It will be partly sunny with a high near 70 degrees. There will be a northeast wind 6 to 13 miles per hour becoming southeast in the afternoon. Wind gusts could reach 20 miles per hour.
Between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., there is a 20% chance of showers. It will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 61 degrees. There will be a southeast wind of 10 to 18 miles per hour, with gusts reaching as high as 25 miles per hour.
Wednesday
There is a 100% chance of showers before 10 a.m. There will be a possible thunderstorm between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., and then showers are likely after 1 p.m. The high will be near 75 degrees, with a southeast wind of 15 to 20 miles per hour and gusts as high as 29 miles per hour.
At night, it will be mostly clear, with a low around 46 degrees.
When is tornado season in Georgia?
Tornadoes are capable of being produced any time of year, but March through May is when Georgia is likely to see the highest impact, says the National Weather Service.
