Tesla, the world’s leading electric vehicle manufacturer, is gearing up to make its official entry into the Indian market with its first showrooms set to open in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and Delhi’s Aerocity. This marks a significant milestone in India’s automotive landscape, as Tesla sets up its retail and experience centers in the country’s most prime commercial hubs.

Tesla’s Mumbai Showroom at Maker Maxity, BKC

Tesla has finalized its showroom space at Maker Maxity in BKC, Mumbai’s high-end commercial hub, at an estimated monthly rent of ₹35 lakh. Spanning over 3,000 square feet on the ground floor of a commercial tower, the showroom will offer a premium experience for potential Tesla buyers. The agreement is considered one of the highest rental deals in India’s auto industry.

BKC is known as the most expensive commercial real estate hub in India, housing top global businesses and luxury brands. The showroom will also include dedicated parking spots, ensuring a seamless experience for customers.

Tesla’s Delhi Showroom in Aerocity

Simultaneously, Tesla has secured a 4,000-square-foot space in Aerocity, near Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI), at a monthly rent of ₹25 lakh. The showroom is located in a Brookfield-owned commercial property, strategically positioned to cater to Delhi-NCR’s elite clientele.

Brookfield Properties has not yet confirmed details of the agreement. However, industry sources suggest that this showroom will be a key hub for Tesla’s North India operations, complementing its Mumbai presence.

Tesla’s Expansion Plans in India

Tesla has been eyeing the Indian market for years, with plans gaining momentum after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with Elon Musk in the U.S. last year. The company had paused its India entry plans in 2022 but resumed its search for showroom spaces in late 2023.

In addition to securing real estate, Tesla has been actively recruiting for its India operations. Last month, the company posted job openings for 13 mid-level roles, including store managers and customer relationship managers, signaling an aggressive expansion strategy.

India’s EV Revolution & Tesla’s Impact

With India emerging as the third-largest auto market globally, Tesla’s entry is expected to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in the country. The Indian government has been pushing for increased EV adoption through incentives and infrastructure development, making it an attractive market for Tesla.

As Tesla prepares to launch its operations, Indian consumers can soon expect access to its flagship models, cutting-edge technology, and a premium EV ownership experience. Stay tuned for further updates on Tesla’s showroom launch dates and upcoming developments.
