Glitch affects 112 helpline for 30 minutes
New Delhi: A technical glitch in the PCR system was reported on Thursday, leaving emergency calls unattended for nearly half an hour. Police sources said that the system failure occurred around 3 pm on Thursday, with police unable to receive calls on the 112 helpline number.
According to a senior police officer, the PCR system was down for about 30 minutes, during which time calls were still visible on the screen, but police personnel were unable to answer them. "The system hung due to which the problem occurred and the reason behind the glitch was being investigated," a police source said.
Police sources confirmed that after half an hour, the system was eventually restored, and normal functioning resumed. To mitigate the situation, police personnel at the PCR Control Room began calling back the numbers that attempted to contact the emergency services.
Sources said this was the first time the PCR system faced such a prolonged outage. The Delhi Police's PCR Unit has confirmed the system failure, which is being investigated. The 112 helpline number is a critical emergency service providing assistance for police, fire, health, and women's safety.
