Annual flower and baby show off MC itinerary again

Annual flower and baby show off MC itinerary again
Ludhiana: In what comes as a disappointment for city residents, the annual flower and baby show, which was held last year after a nine-year hiatus, will not be held this year.
So far, officials have not received permission to organise the event, despite its popularity. It attracts participation from both the general public and members of park management committees.
This time, the MC was too caught up with the civic body and mayoral election to plan the event. Last year, more than 100 park management committees participated in the event. The MC needs to reach out to potential participants, which could not be done this time.
A resident of Model Town, Arshpreet Kaur, said, "I have participated in the flower show with a variety of flowers several times and it also gave me a chance to see what other people are growing." She said that one such event should be conducted every year.
Sarabjot Singh, a resident of Maharaj Nagar, said, "I took my son to participate in the baby show last year. Although he did not win a prize, at least the family enjoyed the experience. There is no space or public events where people can get together, so the MC should continue organising such events."
An official of the horticulture branch, requesting anonymity, said, "We have to get permission from the local bodies department before organising such events, and this year we could not do the same, so it is not planned yet."
Senior deputy mayor Rakesh Prashar blamed the poor financial condition of the civic body for this. "Already there is a financial crisis in the civic body, and we are thinking about development works. So it is better to avoid such types of expenses at the moment," he said, adding that they would organise such events again after bolstering the MC's finances.
