Mumbai | Crime News : In a major anti-narcotics operation, a Brazilian woman was arrested at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai, for attempting to smuggle cocaine worth ₹11 crore into India. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) apprehended the accused after discovering that she had swallowed around 100 capsules containing the contraband.
According to officials, the woman had arrived from São Paulo, Brazil. During interrogation, she admitted to ingesting the drug-filled capsules to evade detection. She was immediately taken to a government hospital, where, under medical supervision, the capsules were extracted. The total weight of the seized cocaine was 1,066 grams, with an estimated market value of ₹10.96 crore.
Authorities have stated that due to the large quantity of narcotics involved, the accused could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted. The incident has raised serious concerns about international drug trafficking networks operating through Indian airports.
