REET held amid strict checking of dress code in Rajasthan
Jaipur/Udaipur/Ajmer: The third shift of Rajasthan Eligibility Examination for Teachers 2024 (REET) passed off smoothly amid high security Friday. Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE), which conducted the exam, said it remained peaceful across the state on its second day, too.
Attendance in the third shift of the exam was 88.55%, said officials. Maximum attendance was recorded in Salumber district (96.09%), and the lowest in Deeg (68.14%). In Jaipur, attendance for the third shift was 83.94%.
"From the war room set up in the REET office, the board administration along with the district administration kept an eye on the exam centres across Rajasthan through CCTV cameras. Arrangements were found to be smooth everywhere. No complaint of any kind of disturbance has been received from anywhere," said RBSE secretary Kailash Chandra Sharma.
As many as 5,41,598 candidates were registered for the exam held Friday, and 4,79,597 of them appeared for the exam while 62,001 remained absent.
Dress code norms posed challenges for candidates across Rajasthan in the third shift, too. At many centres, buttons were cut from dresses of female candidates, and some were asked to remove basic jewellery like nose pins and earrings. In Alwar, a girl got angry after the buttons of her suit were cut at the exam centre. At Residency School centre in Udaipur, two female candidates could not remove their nose pins, prompting the staff at the centre to paste tape on their noses. In Alwar, a pregnant woman was denied entry as she reached a few seconds late.
At the exam centre at Poonali in Dungarpur, two male candidates from Brahmin community were asked to remove their sacred threads (janeu) and allowed entry only after removing it. The incident prompted some from the community to express outrage as the two candidates were not heard despite their pleas to keep the sacred threads on. Some community members later demanded action against the inspection team.
Candidates at some centres in Alwar, Kota and Sawai Madhopur districts had to stand in long queues at the exam centres due to technical issues and delay in face scan.
