Ward-level Child Protection Committee meeting held

Tiruchi Corporation’s ward-level Child Protection Committee meeting was held at Thevar Hall on Saturday.

Officials working in child welfare, Corporation officials, council members, NGO representatives, Nehru Yuva Kendra youth representatives and school children attended the meeting.

Laws regarding protection of children, such as Child Marriage Prohibition Act 2006 and Protection of Children from Offences Act 2012, were explained by Srividya, Legal Probation Officer of the District Child Protection Unit. How the ward-level child protection committee members can work together to ensure the safety of children in the community when information is received about drug use among children and the purpose of the committee meeting to be held once every three months, as well as the responsibilities and duties of the committee were discussed.

Priyadarshini, Social Worker of the District Child Protection Unit, gave a presentation to the committee members on the rights and protection of children, the role of parents in raising children, and the 24-hour hotline 1098 in case of any problem faced by children.
