Youth drowns, another feared missing in Munger
Patna: A youth drowned in the Ganga river while another was feared missing in the Dharhara block of Munger district on Saturday, police said. The incident took place while the two were bathing at the Shivkund Ganga ghat in the block.
An SDRF team and local divers were pressed into service to resue the missing youth.
The deceased was identified as Bittu Kumar (24), son of Bhavanand Jha, a resident of Nihal Patti in Madhepura district. His cousin, Satyam alias Kalu (18), son of Ranjit Jha, a resident of Kumarsar Rajpur, went missing after being swept away by a strong current.
The incident occurred under the Hemjapur police station area when Bittu slipped into water while taking a selfie with his cousin. Villagers, who were bathing nearby, tried to save them but were unsuccessful. Upon receiving the information, the circle officer of Dharhara block, Birendra Kumar, reached the spot along with the administration officials, police, and local divers to start the rescue operation.
Birendra said the local divers and SDRF team were called to search for the youth. Hemjapur police station's SHO, Prashant Kumar, said the body of Bittu was found and sent to the govt hospital for an autopsy. "The search for Satyam is going on," he added.
"On Friday, Bittu and Satyam came to their uncle Mohan Pandit's house in Shivkund village. Both were to return to their homes on Saturday. During the day time, they went to the Ganga river to take a bath. However, while taking a selfie, both of them slipped in the river," Prashant said.
