Mangaluru: NHAI project director Abdulla Javed Azmi said the Kalladka flyover on Mangaluru-Bengaluru national highway will be ready by the first week of April.
Speaking at a District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting chaired by Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta on Saturday, Azmi said about 96% of the work from Addahole to Periyashanthi on NH-75 is completed. About 400 metres of work is pending as the issue of developing an elephant underpass is pending before the high court. About 73% of the work from Periyashanthi to BC Road is completed, and the rest will over by June. While the work on the Kalladka flyover will be completed by March-end, it will be ready for vehicular movement in April. Work on approach roads to the flyover and service roads in Kalladka town is in progress, he explained.
The project director said that work on service roads at Mulki-Bappanadu, Padupanambur, Beeri, and Haleyangadi on NH-66 will be taken up after monsoon. The work on the six-lane bridge at Kuloor is in progress, and may be completed by Jan 2026, he added.
DC Mullai Muhilan M P directed the NHAI officials to inform the local bodies in advance in case any disconnection of the pipeline is required during highway development. A permanent solution should be found for the landslip issue at Kettikal on the Mangaluru-Moodbidri stretch of the highway before monsoon, he said.
Forest clearance
Belthangady MLA Harish Poonja raised concerns regarding forest clearance requirements for Charmadi Ghat road expansion project. In response, DCF Anthony S Mariyappa said state-level approval would be granted for forest clearance up to five acres. "There needs to be clarity of the number of trees to be felled, and the area required," he added. The MP then instructed the DC to organise a meeting involving the contractor and forest officials to review project details and work out an action plan.
Shiradi Ghat may be closed from March 15
MP Capt Brijesh Chowta, quoting a report, said Shiradi Ghat road stretch is likely to be closed from March 15 to facilitate the work on concreting the stretch from Donigal Cross to Maranahalli in Sakleshpur taluk. The MP directed the Dakshina Kannada DC to speak to his counterpart of Hassan district in this regard. "The closure of Shiradi Ghat will affect Dakshina Kannada more as it is a major connectivity from the port city," the MP said.
