Cambodia’s manufacturing sector witnessed a robust growth of 9.7 per cent year on year (YoY) last year, with the number of manufacturers reaching a new high of 2,316 as of November, according to the ministry of industry, science, technology and innovation.

The number of manufacturing units rose by 210, or 10 per cent, over end-2023 figure.

The manufacturing sector employs over 1.1 million citizens in the country.

The garments, footwear and travel goods (GFT) industry is the largest foreign exchange earner for the country. It consists of 1,538 factories and branches, employing 913,000 workers, mostly female, according to a report from the ministry of labour and vocational training.

GFT manufacturing increased by 8.6 per cent YoY last year, backed by external demand, a domestic media outlet reported citing the government document. Manufacturing of non-garment products increased by 10.9 per cent YoY.

Cambodia attracted 414 fixed-asset investment projects worth $6.9 billion in 2024—up by 40 per cent from $4.92 billion in the year before, according to the Council for Development of Cambodia (CDC).
