NLC India Limited (NLCIL) on Thursday felicitated sportspersons who secured medals in the Paris Paralympics 2024. NLCIL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Prasanna Kumar Motupalli also handed over cheques to the four sportspersons.

According to an official press release, the cash awards — ₹3 lakh to silver medallist and ₹2 lakh each to three bronze medallists — were presented from the NLCIL-NTPL Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund.

While shuttler Thulasimathi Murugesan, who won a silver medal in the event, received a cheque for ₹3 lakh, Mariyappan who secured a bronze medal in men’s high jump received a cheque for ₹2 lakh. Representatives of shuttlers Manisha and Nithya Sre, who had secured bronze medals, received ₹2 lakh each on their behalf.

Mr. Motupalli appreciated the achievements of the four para-athletes from Tamil Nadu and said they had achieved success due to sheer grit and determination. The accomplishment of the athletes would be an inspiration to students of NLCIL to put in committed efforts to achieve accolades in sports, he said.

Neyveli MLA Saba Rajendran said the Tamil Nadu government had provided the necessary impetus to sports and as many as 82 sportspersons were provided with employment in the government under the sports quota. He also appealed to NLCIL to recruit wards of employees in surrounding villages under the sports quota.
