Noida: The Noida Power Company Limited (NPCL), which supplies power to Greater Noida, disconnected a total of 1,193 electricity connections between Feb 1 and 27 over dues amounting to nearly Rs 7.8 crore.
A majority of these connections were in rural pockets, including villages such as Tilapata, Saini, Sakipur and Shivrajpur, where most defaulters owed amounts of Rs 10,000 and above. Other villages include Khairpur Gurjar, Bisrakh Jalalpur, Junaidpur, Sunpura, Ladpura, and Kanarsi.
Officials said that 12 teams have been deployed for pending dues recovery, to facilitate payment recoveries, the discom office in Tugalpur, Knowledge Park 1, will remain open from 10am to 4.30pm on all weekends next month – with the exception of Holi on March 14.
Currently, there are around 20,000 defaulters in the area, including both rural and urban areas, owing outstanding dues totalling Rs 161 crore.
Of these, Rs 114 crore is due from rural areas, while Rs 47 crore is from urban areas.
The discom is also taking action against consumers who have not paid assessed fines in electricity theft cases.
In theft-related cases, 78 connections were disconnected, with 20 consumers settling their fines, which resulted in restoration of services. Reconnecting the electricity supply after disconnection is a criminal offence under Section 138 of the Electricity Act 2003 and will result in legal action, officials added.
