Many places in the State, where mercury was soaring until recently, have seen a slight dip in maximum temperatures in the past three days, bringing much-needed relief to people.
On Thursday, the departure from the normal maximum temperatures ranged between 0 and 2.8 degree Celsius. Only Visakhapatnam’s maximum temperature was 2.8 degree Celsius above the normal, while the departure in maximum temperatures of all other stations were below 2 degrees Celsius.
On February 25, 26 and 27, except for Visakhapatnam and Narsapur, whose maximum temperatures have been above normal, many places in Rayalaseema, including Kadapa, Kurnool, Nandyal, recorded a negative departure, meaning their maximum temperatures were lower than the normal temperature.
The highest maximum temperature of the day, at 36.3 degree Celsius, was recorded in Kurnool. There is a slight dip in its maximum temperatures of the city, which recorded 38.2 degree Celsius on February 24. Its maximum temperatures, hovering between 38 and 39 degree Celsius, have remained the highest in the State for most of the month.
As per officials from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperatures for most of the month have been above normal by 2 to 4 degree Celisus. “Sometimes, the temperatures may go down, but they may shoot up again, depending on the directions of the wind,” said IMD, Amaravati, Director S. Stella.
While the outlook for March and the overall summer season has not been released yet, the weekly forecast predicts that the maximum temperatures in the State would continue to be above normal until March 3, as lower tropospheric south easterly winds prevail over Andhra Pradesh and Yanam.
