Berhampur: Police on Friday detained a 29-year-old man for allegedly hacking to death his father to death over a family dispute at Takarada in Ganjam district on Thursday night, police said.
The deceased was identified as Tarini Mallick (65). His son, Jugal Mallick, attacked him with an axe while he was asleep. Birendra Sial, inspector in-charge, Sheragada police station, said the accused was a labourer in Mumbai and returned home over a month ago. "After his return, his father quarrelled with him after consuming liquor. Due to his ill behaviour, his daughter-in-law was staying in her parental home for the last few days," the IIC said.
Irritated by his father's behaviour, Jugal attacked him on Thursday night. He was immediately rushed to the nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead, police said. The accused was detained for questioning. Police also seized the murder weapon.
The deceased also has two daughters, who got married some years ago. His wife died some years back.
