The Maharashtra government has awarded a ₹600 crore contract to three private companies for replacing number plates of vehicles manufactured before 2019. However, it has been revealed that these companies are charging double the amount compared to other states.  

The three companies handling the project in Maharashtra are:  

Despite the Transport Department’s oversight, details about when and how these contracts were awarded remain undisclosed. A member of the Federation of Drivers-Owners Representatives has raised concerns about the lack of transparency.

For four-wheelers:

– Goa – ₹203

How to Get an HSRP Number Plate in Maharashtra

1. Register online at [transport.maharashtra.gov.in](http://transport.maharashtra.gov.in).  

2. Select a fitment center from the provided list.  

3. Book an appointment and visit the center on the assigned date.  

4. The vendor will install the number plate and update the vehicle system.  

Authorities have urged citizens to only install plates from government-authorized vendors. Number plates purchased elsewhere will not be recorded in the system, and vehicles will be marked as pending for HSRP installation.  

The high cost in Maharashtra compared to other states has raised questions, with citizens demanding an explanation for the excessive pricing.
