Komal Mittal assumes office as Mohali DC, outlines priorities for development & governance
Mohali: Komal Mittal, a 2014 batch IAS officer, assumed office as deputy commissioner of Mohali on Tuesday. She replaced Aashika Jain, a 2015 batch IAS officer, who was appointed as DC of Hoshiarpur.
Before joining Mohali, Komal Mittal served as DC Hoshiarpur. She also held positions such as ADC (G) and ADC (UD) at Mohali, additional secretary of food and civil supplies, Punjab, additional commissioner of MC Amritsar, and SDM Mukerian.
Listing her priorities, she said that her primary focus would be to implement the flagship programmes of the Punjab government in the district, in addition to leading a campaign against drug abuse. The DC emphasised that transparency in governance, continuing the fight against corruption, and ensuring the timely delivery of citizen-centric services would be key to minimising public grievances.
She also said that, given the growing urbanisation in Mohali district, particularly in the city area, planned development would be ensured, and action would be taken against illegal constructions and encroachments.
The DC said to safeguard the interests of district residents against illegal immigration, a meeting would soon be held with travel agents, and people would be informed about the registered travel agents operating in the district. Before assuming office, she was presented with a guard of honour by the police.
Soon after assuming charge, DC Komal Mittal held an introductory meeting with the staff and urged them to ensure punctuality, transparency, honesty, and dedication in their work. She said that, as Mohali is the most dynamic district headquarters in the state, all staff should strictly adhere to protocols in their daily tasks to ensure that no one feels offended by their behaviour.
The DC, who previously served as additional deputy commissioner (G) in the area, emphasised that the complaint branch and the branch handling court cases, particularly those related to the Punjab and Haryana high court, must diligently fulfill their responsibilities.
She said there should be minimal backlog in their daily work to ensure that people do not feel harassed when visiting the DC Office and its various branches.
