According to Airports Council International Europe (ACI EUROPE), the airport experienced a 46% surge in passenger traffic compared to 2023, making it one of the fastest-growing airports in its category.

This significant increase is attributed to strategic expansions in both its route network and airline partnerships.

The number of airlines operating at Chișinău International Airport grew from 20 in 2022 to 33 in 2024, enhancing connectivity and offering passengers a broader range of destinations.

This expansion reflects the airport’s commitment to improving air connectivity, which, as noted by ACI EUROPE, plays a vital role in economic development and integration within the European region.

The airport’s growth aligns with broader trends observed in the European aviation sector.

ACI EUROPE reported that in 2024, European airports collectively welcomed over 2.5 billion passengers, surpassing pre-pandemic levels by 1.8%.

This recovery was driven by increased international travel and the expansion of low-cost carriers, contributing to the overall resilience and growth of the aviation industry in the region.

Chișinău International Airport’s impressive performance not only enhances Moldova’s connectivity but also contributes to the socio-economic development of the region.

Improved air connectivity facilitates trade, tourism, and investment, which are essential components of economic growth.

As highlighted by ACI EUROPE, airports and the connectivity they provide support 14 million jobs and generate €851 billion in GDP annually across Europe, underscoring the critical role of aviation infrastructure in economic prosperity.

Looking ahead, Chișinău International Airport aims to build on its success by further enhancing passenger services, expanding its route network, and maintaining high operational standards.

These efforts are designed to strengthen its strategic position in the region and continue contributing to Moldova’s integration into the European and global economy.
