MSU scholar only one from Gujarat picked for 16th HOPE Meeting in Japan
Vadodara: A research scholar from MS University has been selected for the HOPE meeting that will take place in Yokohama city, Kanagawa, Japan.
Since 2008, the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) has been organizing the HOPE meeting with Nobel laureates to advance science and technology in the Asia-Pacific and Africa regions.
Bhautik Dhori from the department of physics who is doing research in condensed matter physics under the supervision of professor Prafulla K Jha is the only scholar from Gujarat selected for the meeting. The 16th HOPE meeting is scheduled from March 9 to March 13.
"The department of science & technology (DST), New Delhi, has nominated nine Indian research scholars for participation in this meeting. I am honoured to be one of them whose name has been recommended by DST to JSPS," he said.
The two-stage selection process included DST nominating candidates. Only those candidates who had earned a gold medal in their master's programme were eligible for nomination. The final selection was carried out by the HOPE meeting organizing committee.
This year, the meeting focuses on physics, chemistry, physiology/medicine and related fields. The programme will feature lectures by Nobel laureates and distinguished researchers, small group discussions with the lecturers in a seminar-style format, poster sessions showcasing participants' research, oral presentations by multinational teams of participants.
Around 110 doctoral students and young researchers from various countries and areas in the Asia-Pacific and Africa regions have been selected to participate.
