Teacher sacked for assaulting 7-year-old Class 1 student
Ahmedabad: A female teacher working with the Hebron School in the Maninagar area of the city was terminated on Monday after she was found guilty of assaulting a 7-year-old Class 1 boy.
The action against the teacher, in her late 30s, was initiated after the parents of the boy filed a complaint with the Ahmedabad district education officer (DEO) last week. The complaint was initially filed with the school authorities after the child's parents spotted the injuries. However, when the school authorities did not take action, they lodged a formal grievance with the DEO. The parents submitted their formal complaint along with photographic evidence of the injuries.
Based on the complaint, the DEO sent a notice to the school, demanding prompt punitive measures against the teacher. The notice clarified that inaction could lead to the school's recognition being revoked, as per govt protocols. It further stated that the Right to Education (RTE) Act explicitly prohibits any form of physical or psychological harassment of students.
The school management initiated action upon receiving the DEO notice and terminated the service of the teacher.
Ahmedabad DEO Rohit Chaudhary confirmed the development and said that the parents could take legal action against the teacher. He emphasised a commitment to zero tolerance for such conduct and assured strict enforcement against any violations of students' rights.
