Number of centres fitting high security registration plates may increase in Pune
Pune: Regional Transport Office (RTO) of Pune is expected to increase the number of centres where citizens may obtain high security registration plates.
"We have directed the company responsible for manufacture and distribution of high security registration plates (HSRP) to quickly increase the number of registered centres from the current 69. It will ensure citizens have more options available," deputy regional transport officer Swapnil Bhosle told TOI.
The RTO website (www.mhhsrp.com) shows the number of registered centres as 52.
Bhosle said 24,041 appointments were taken and 16,454 vehicles fixed with HSRPs till Feb 23. In Pune, 24,28,589 vehicles registered before April 2019 are to undergo the process by April 30. The earlier deadline was March 31.
Officials said they had received complaints that dealers had not given HSRPs, as is mandatory, to vehicles registered after 2019. "Many motorists had brought up the matter with us and we are investigating. There could be around 50,000 such vehicles in the city. We will identify erring dealers and suspend their trade licence," another RTO official said.
Motorists said the number of registration centres needed to be increased immediately. "RTO should allow all vehicle dealers in the city to fit HSRPs. The procedure will gain momentum," a motorist said.
In an earlier conversation, state transport commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar had said that if needed, a further extension in deadline was possible.
