Jamshedpur: The traffic police have launched a fresh drive against both heavy and light vehicles parked illegally in the no parking zones to free up motorable spaces. The move comes in the wake of two recent fatal accidents in Telco and Bagbera killing four people due to illegal parking.
On Monday, the cops penalised 45 heavy vehicles including trucks and trailers that were parked on either side of the stretch near the R D Tata Technical Institute, Sunsunia gate and at Burmamines Chowk on Monday. A total of 100 vehicles have been penalised in two days including 45 on Monday and 55 on Tuesday. An amount of Rs 10,000 has been collected from 20 vehicles on account of penalty so far. The process of collecting penalties from the remaining vehicles is underway.
"Vehicles parked on either side of the busy road without permission have been penalised. The vehicle owners have been warned not to repeat the offence," said Golmuri traffic police station in-charge, Bhushan Kumar on Tuesday adding that the drive will continue regularly.
Another official said that traffic police have identified nine places for conducting crackdown this week.
The identified streets are Jemco Chowk to South gate Tata Motors, Anna Chowk to DVC office in Telco area, East plant basti to Tube division gate, station road and Burmamines roundabout in Burmamines area, Bhuiyadih bus terminus to Sidhgora road, NML Chowk to Bagunnagar in Sidhgora.
Besides, Mango roundabout to Dimna Chowk in Mango, Dimna Chowk to Bhilaipahari in MGM than limits, Tatanagar railway station to Jugsalai Chowk in Jugsalai, Marine Drive road in Kadma, Sidhgora-Golmuri transport ground road in Sitaramdera and Tatanagar station to Pursudih Chowk in Pursudih police station area.
"The illegal parking on the roadside reduces the space of the road due to which the motorists moving on either side of the street confront problems in passing through the road smoothly, besides the haphazard parking leads to road jam," said the traffic inspector.
