Rajkot: A 23-year-old man working in a Morbi ceramics factory died by suicide on Monday, allegedly fed up with mental torture inflicted by his wife's brother and mother.
The victim, Rajesh alias Gatiyo, was found hanging in the labour quarters of the factory.
Following the incident, the deceased's mother, 45-year-old Geeta Solanki, lodged a complaint at the Morbi City B-division police station, naming Rajesh's brother-in-law, Deva Dabhi, and mother-in-law, Hansa Dabhi, as the accused.
Geeta told police that Rajesh married a woman named Pooja about one and a half years ago.
On Feb 23, Rajesh's family went to Rajcharadi village to attend a wedding. Around 4pm, his younger brother, Gautam, informed their mother that Rajesh received a threatening call from Deva. The caller reportedly asked for Rajesh's location and warned him to ‘be prepared' as they were coming to attack him.
Distressed by the call, Rajesh confided in his family, saying he was scared and exhausted by the harassment. He even expressed thoughts of ending his life. Gautam tried to reassure him, telling him not to take any drastic step and that they would return the next day. However, around 5 pm, the family was informed by Rajesh's uncle, Mohan, that he hanged himself.
Geeta alleged that Rajesh's wife, Pooja, left their home within a month of marriage and continued to stay with her parents. Despite repeated efforts to bring her back, her family refused to send her to her marital home.
The complaint further alleged that Rajesh's in-laws repeatedly insulted and threatened him. They allegedly pressured him to buy a separate house.
