Ahmedabad: A chartered accountant (CA) from Paldi filed a police complaint on Sunday against his domestic help for allegedly stealing Rs 26.90 lakh in cash and valuables from his residence.
According to Mohib Khericha, 73, a resident of Sarita Kunj Society on PT College Road, the accused, Mahendra Meena, was employed in May 2024.
Mohib's children — a son and a daughter — live in London and Dubai respectively. Meena, a native of Pal Sarada village in Udaipur district of Rajasthan, had earlier left the job in 2023 but was re-employed last year, Mohib stated in the FIR.
On Saturday, Mohib and his wife Sofia, 68, went to visit their farm.
When they returned the next evening, Mohib called Meena, but his mobile was switched off. He was not present in his room and his belongings were also missing.
Later, Mohib and his wife discovered that their digital locker was tampered with. Cash amounting to Rs 14.4 lakh, a premium watch worth Rs 10 lakh, another valued at Rs 1 lakh and a diamond pendant worth Rs 1.5 lakh were missing.
The total estimated loss stands at Rs 26.9 lakh. Efforts to contact Meena were unsuccessful. So Khericha filed a theft complaint with Paldi police and launched an investigation. Cops are also tracking the suspect's whereabouts.
