Act against fake transgenders on streets: Officer
Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada ZP CEO Anandh K directed officials to take action against people disguised as transgenders, and begging around the city. He was speaking at women and child development department district committee meeting, held on Monday.
Complaints of women from other states dressing as transgenders begging, and being involved prostitution, have been filed in the city, and appropriate action needs to be taken. Police were instructed to ensure public nuisance is not caused in the name of begging.
Programmes should be organised to verify and issue identity cards to transgenders in the district. They should be provided with bank passbooks, ration cards, voter IDs, Aadhaar cards, and insurance schemes. Efforts should be made to provide them with housing plots under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, he added.
HIV related programmes should be conducted in every educational institution. Awareness programmes about HIV should be organised in schools and colleges to educate the public, the CEO stated.
Self-employment incentives are being provided under the Dhanashree (for women with HIV) and Chetana schemes (for marginalised women). Information about these schemes should be disseminated to them.
Children under 18 should not be employed. Hotels and restaurants should display self-declaration boards for the same, he said, adding issues like domestic violence, and human trafficking should be discussed in every village meeting.
Additional DC G Santhosh Kumar, deputy director of the women and child development department Usman A, and child development project officers from Mangaluru, Bantwal, Belthangady, Vitla, Puttur, and Sullia, were present.
